Working Online

The start of the pandemic led me, along with many others, to move to working online. Although sceptical at first, I have found it to be just as effective as face to face work, and often more convenient for my clients. I mainly work via Zoom or WhatsApp, but am happy to work with Skype or over the phone.

My Approach

I have been working as a counsellor in Derby for more than 15 years. I use an integrative approach to counselling which means that I make use of various theoretical models and therapeutic tools which, I hope, allows me to fit my practice to the varied needs of my clients. The main focus of my approach is guided by existential psychotherapy informed by person centred and cognitive practices.

As well as working with individuals, an important part of my practice is my work with couples. In this challenging, but rewarding work I try to address the way couples interact with each other, and how their personal, individual issues impact on their relationship. By approaching things in this way, I believe that I am able to remain balanced and non-judgmental, treating the couple's relationship as my client. We will work on identifying negative interactions, trying to spot their causes and learn how to reduce their severity and frequency. And to promote positive experiences in the relationship including in the bedroom.

I have extensive experience of working in areas such as relationship problems, depression, anxiety, bereavement, loss, trauma, abuse, low self-esteem, alcohol and/or drug abuse, sexuality issues, and dealing with anger. There are many things that counselling can help with.

Business and life coaching can also play an important part in my work, for example: it can be hard to focus on personal issues if it feels like the work environment is generating too much stress. It can be useful to have someone acting as a sounding board when faced with political challenges at work.

Whether you are having difficulty coping with your present circumstances, or are troubled by things which happened long ago, counselling can have a huge positive impact on your life.
